First Principles Judo is dedicated to teaching concepts of physical and spiritual development that come as a result of studying the martial art of Judo. These philosophies are ever present in the writings of the great Jigoro Kano, as well as his student Kyuzo Mifune. Jigoro Kano taught that the goal of Judo was “the harmonious development and eventual perfection of the human character.” This is what we strive to achieve.
The first two principles of judo are “maximum efficiency with minimal effort” and “mutual welfare and benefit for all.” All of us at First Principles Judo take this motto to heart, not only in practice, but in our daily lives. At our club you will quickly find this to hold true, and hopefully it will become a beneficial part of your life as well.
Black Belt Mark Houk lovingly taught Judo to his family for many years through First Principles Judo. His nephew Jonathan Mann attained Black Belt as well, and continues his legacy today. Watch our video detailing what First Principles meant to Mark.
Class Schedule
Here at First Principles Judo, we try to reach family units as a whole with our class schedules. We offer adult only classes, kids classes, and family classes where parents can train with their children. We also offer an open mat time for parents to bring toddlers who just want a safe place to bring their children to mingle. Classes vary based on interest.
