Competition season is here! What is the big deal, and more importantly, how do you get involved?!
So why would you compete anyway
Competition, or Shiai in Japanese, is a great way to pressure test your skills against competitors who are unfamiliar to you and have learned different styles of Judo. For kids, it is also a great way to introduce them to new environments and growth opportunities.
Come watch a local competition! See our competition calendar for this year in our pinned posts.
Attend classes regularly, and let your Sensei know you want to compete. Competition specific classes are held throughout the year in Nixa, as well as at Joplin Judo & JiuJitsu, just reach out to find out when!
Sign up for a USA Judo account at https://www.usajudo.com/membership to be eligible for most local and national tournaments our dojo attends. USA Judo is our governing body, and you are able to keep a nationally recognized rank with a paid membership.
Even if you are not competing, you can still get involved! Tournament staff are always looking for volunteers to help with setup, record keeping, referees, and medical. There is a space for you, just reach out!
